Between January and March 2006, a total of 233,669 houses were sold in Spain. This number represents an increase of 18.9% with respect to the 1st trimester 2005 and a reduction of 5.5% in relation to last year´s fourth trimester, where 247,405 houses were sold.
26.851 holiday houses were acquired by foreigner residents in Spain, 4.491, by non resident citizens in the country, and 200.428, by Spaniards. 20.649 of the 26.851 were resale properties and 6.202 off-plans.
By communities, Valencia has registered the greater number of Spanish property bought by foreigners and non residents, with a total of 8.879, followed by Catalonia (5.778), Andalucía (4.028), Madrid (3.899), Murcia (2.219), The Canary Islands (2.170), Balearic (993), Castilla-La Mancha (887), Aragón (650) and Castilla-Leon (585).
